I am the Sea
29.12.11 An elemental day on Perranporth Beach, Cornwall. This is the rock (island?) where Townshend recorded the sea sound effects in 1972/73 used in Quadrophenia, and inspired side four’s ‘The Rock’. The second pic shows Carter’s or Gull Rocks off in the distance in the far right, used in the last two pages of the orig Quadrophenia booklet insert. There could be Urthona live action in Cornwall in 2012; we hope so, we totally massively absolutely love Kernow.

Cyril Tawney
Massive respect to Talking Elephant, who have put out CDs of two early 70s LPs by West Country folk god Cyril Tawney. I totally love these Argo label old school reverb-free rarities – A MAYFLOWER GARLAND and CHILDRENS SONGS FROM DEVON AND CORNWALL – who couldn’t with those mighty pix of Cyril on ye Plymouth Hoe on the cover. ( A Mayflower Garland is a bit weird and has spoken word sections, but the final track is the definitive version of The Oggie Man – so you gotta have it.) For further info get yourself over here.

Tue’sday Night/Wodnesday Morning
A freshly pooped Urthona session track is gonna be spun on a Black Sheep/Biker FM 4-hour happening that’s being broadcast next Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning. Step this way for info. The track, ‘West Kennet Long Barrow Meditation on Sun and Moon So Heavy’, was recorded inside a chamber of West Kennet Long Barrow, a 5,500 year-old communal tomb on the Marlborough Downs, Wiltshire.
